This week for the Friday Throwback we will be featuring the great track Luchini, This is it from Camp Lo. This comes off of one of my favorite albums from the Bronx Crew Camp Lo (Sonny Cheeba and Geechi Suede). Released off the album Uptown Saturday Night in January of 1997, this track takes a heavy influence from 1970′s pop culture with the title Coolie High being a reference to the 1975 film of the same name. The album debuted at #27 on the Billboard charts and much of that was due to the this well received track. The cover art was inspired by the Ernie Barnes painting The Sugar Shack which was also used as the cover of Marvin Gaye’s 1976 album I Want You. I love this work from Ernie who is from Durham, NC and happened to be a professional football player before becoming an acclaimed artist. Most of the production on this album was done by Ski (Originally from Greensboro, NC), who also was brought in by Dame Dash to work with Jay Z years ago. I love this song. It just makes me feel good. I remember just getting this tape riding around in my two door honda coupe as a junior in High School. This, to me, truly is one of those albums you can listen to fully through.
